In short
There are two separate ways to get a PowerPoint out of Claude and they have almost nothing in common. The first is Claude for PowerPoint, an add-in that runs inside the deck. Anthropic documents it as "generally available to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans", and it is genuinely good: it reads your slide master, layouts, fonts and color scheme, edits one slide without regenerating the rest, and converts bullets into "editable native PowerPoint charts" rather than pictures. The second route is file creation inside an ordinary Claude conversation, which Anthropic says is available to all users including Free, and can produce .pptx, .xlsx, .docx and PDF files with a documented ceiling of "30MB per file for both uploads and downloads". Neither route is a document converter. The add-in starts from a deck you already have open, and Anthropic lists the environments where it simply will not install: PowerPoint 2016 and 2019 perpetual or volume license, PowerPoint on iPad, PowerPoint on Android, and Microsoft 365 builds below 16.0.13127.20296 on Windows or 16.46 on Mac. The chat route will read a file you upload but starts from a blank page rather than your corporate template, and Anthropic notes that "creating files will use more of your limit compared to normal chats". Regulated US teams hit a third wall that has nothing to do with quality: Anthropic states that Claude for PowerPoint "does not inherit custom data retention settings your organization might have set" and that "activity is not included in Enterprise audit logs or the Compliance API". Most write-ups of Claude for PowerPoint argue about output quality. The question that comes first is narrower and has a documented answer: does the add-in run in your environment at all. Anthropic publishes exact build floors and an explicit unsupported list, so this table stays close to its own wording rather than guessing.

What about Claude Design, the third route?
Anthropic added a third way to get slides out of Claude, and it does not behave like either of the two above. Claude Design, an Anthropic Labs product at claude.ai/design, builds a presentation as interactive HTML rendered in a canvas rather than as a PowerPoint file, which Anthropic describes as "offering capabilities beyond static slide software". Its documented exports are standalone HTML, PPTX, PDF, a project .zip, Send to Canva, and a handoff to Claude Code.
The PPTX option is real, but it is a conversion rather than a native save, because the deck was authored as a web page. That is the same translation step that costs you fonts and spacing anywhere else, so export one deck and open it on a machine that is not yours before you commit a team to the workflow.
