Can Perplexity create PowerPoint slides?

Yes. Perplexity's help center article on creating assets, written by Emilio Morales and dated 9 April 2026, enumerates what the product can produce: "Document Files: DOCX, PDF", "Spreadsheet Files: XLSX", "Presentation Files: PPTX" and "App Files: HTML". An enumeration is worth more than a marketing claim, because it also tells you what is absent. There is no Google Slides target, no Keynote target, and no PDF option for a presentation even though PDF is offered for documents. If you need a PDF of a Perplexity deck, you download the .pptx and make the PDF yourself.

The workflow is prompt-led rather than document-led. You ask in a Search or Deep Research thread, Perplexity assembles a deck, and you refine it with follow-up prompts. Perplexity describes this as being able to "convert documents into presentations with one click" and to "add a slide with a conclusion" by asking in plain language. For a working draft that is genuinely useful. The friction shows up when the deck has to leave your laptop.

Can Perplexity apply our company template?

No, and you do not have to take our word for it. Perplexity's own FAQ asks "Can I apply specific slide layouts or templates to my presentations or documents?" and answers "Not currently. Perplexity produces functional presentations and documents that help you save time. Once you have the content and structure, you can edit the layout, and set any template you'd like to use." A second line in the same article is blunter: "If you would like to review or edit any asset yourself for complete control, for example to change the theme or color of the document, you will need to download the file and use compatible software on your local machine."

Read those two together and the economics change. Perplexity is not claiming to skip the design step, it is claiming to skip the writing step and leaving the design step where it was. For an internal working session that is a fine trade. For a board pack, a client deliverable or anything a marketing team has to sign off, it means somebody opens PowerPoint and reapplies the master slides to every slide by hand, which is exactly the work most teams were trying to remove. Applying your .potx at generation time, rather than after it, is the reason brand templates exist as a step in our pipeline instead of a cleanup task at the end.

Do Perplexity's slides include citations?

Not according to Perplexity. Its overview page describes the benefit of creating assets as "Perplexity's clear, reliable citations (on documents only) and evidence-based outputs", and reinforces it further down with "Every document automatically includes Perplexity-grade citations and research, so your content stays credible". Documents. The parenthetical is easy to skim past and it carries the most important product fact on the page.

This matters more than it first sounds because of who buys Perplexity. Consultants, analysts, equity researchers and policy teams use it precisely so that every claim has a link behind it. Those same people present to rooms that push back. A slide reading "US mid-market churn rose to 14 percent" invites the question "says who", and in a Perplexity-generated deck the answer is not on the slide. The practical workaround inside Perplexity is to generate the document first, keep its citations, and treat the deck as a second artifact you source manually. The alternative is to build the deck from the cited document, which is the route this page is about: Docslide reads the finished report and writes the source page reference into the speaker notes, so the person presenting can answer "says who" without leaving slide show mode. Which Perplexity plan do you need to make a deck, and what does it cost?

Asset creation is a paid feature. Perplexity states that "All Pro, Education Pro, Max, Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max users can create assets with Perplexity", and the Standard (Free) plan description lists search history, basic searches, a "very limited amount of Pro Searches" and basic file uploads, with no mention of creating files. So a free evaluation will not tell you whether the output is good enough, because it will not produce output.

Volume is metered on every tier and Perplexity publishes no figure for any of them. Pro is described as a "Limited amount Create files and apps queries every 30 days". Max promises "Extended limits for Create files and apps Queries" and the ability to "create files and apps with minimal limits on volume or frequency". Enterprise Max offers "extended rate-limits". None of that is a number you can put in a capacity plan. On price, the only first-party figure we can retrieve is for Enterprise: Perplexity's plan comparison lists "Per-seat pricing (starts at $40/month or $400/year/seat)" for Enterprise Pro, and Education Pro at "$10/mo with verification from SheerID". Perplexity's public pricing page blocks automated retrieval, so treat the widely reported Pro at about $20 per month and Max at about $200 per month as approximations and confirm them before you buy. Is there a Perplexity PowerPoint add-in?

There is now, and it is worth being precise about which one people mean. Perplexity brought its Computer agent into Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook as Microsoft 365 add-ins distributed through Microsoft's marketplace, reported live from 28 May 2026 and limited to paid Pro, Max, Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max subscribers. Perplexity's own announcement blocks automated retrieval, so we are citing trade coverage rather than quoting the vendor, and the paid-plan requirement is consistent with the plan gate Perplexity documents for asset creation.

Separately, there are add-ins in the Office store published by other companies with Perplexity in the name, which route your prompt to Perplexity among several models. They are third-party products. If your security team asks whether "the Perplexity add-in" is a first-party Microsoft or Perplexity component, the honest answer depends on which listing was installed, and that is worth checking before it is approved. The same question comes up for every assistant that reaches PowerPoint through a ribbon rather than a file, which is why Copilot to PowerPoint and Claude to PowerPoint both open with build and licensing gates rather than output quality.

Where this fits with the other AI assistants
