Why a Word to Keynote converter has to go through PowerPoint
Keynote reads three kinds of files: its own .key format, PowerPoint (.pptx and .ppt), and nothing else as a presentation. Apple’s Keynote guide covers opening PowerPoint files and is silent on Word. A file converter treats the document as a set of pages. Each page is rendered and placed on a slide, sometimes as an image, sometimes as text boxes that mirror the page layout. The file opens in Keynote, and it looks like your report printed onto slides: no titles, 11-point body text, tables too small to read from the back of the room. How do I convert a Word document to Keynote?

Can you convert a PDF to Keynote?
Not into editable slides from inside Keynote. You can drag PDF pages onto slides, but each one arrives as an image you cannot edit. What Keynote does with the file, so nothing surprises you
A .pptx opens in Keynote as editable text boxes, shapes and notes. Two things are worth knowing. If the deck uses a font your Mac does not have, Keynote shows a missing-font notice and substitutes one, so install the font or change the theme fonts in Keynote. And some PowerPoint-only effects do not have a Keynote equivalent.
